Video:Dominican Cacao Growers Organize to Determine the Fate of Their Community

Here in the Dominican Republic, there are few who eat chocolate. We drink chocolate. Not the store-bought kind. And at least we’re drinking chocolate from quality cacao. Vitamins to drink.

The Loma Guaconejo Cooperative consists of over 200 farmers who enjoy the benefits from the fair trade sale of their cacao. The women in the community assume leadership positions and children receive health care and education. The farmers possess a deep sense of pride and respect for the land as well as the cacao that they grow and process.

Chocolate Country is a documentary created Robin Blotnik of Namshub Films and was a winner in the LinkTV View Change Film Contest Empowerment category. Congratulations Robin Blotnik.

Taza Chocolate makes organic, stone ground chocolate in the Oaxacan tradition. They purchase cacao beans directly from the Loma Guaconejo Cooperative
